"I have learned a lot about being a better parent and my child has learned better social skills." |
Live Together, Grow Together provides early childhood education services to young children (0-5 years old) and their parents who live at Polynesian Village, an affordable housing complex in New Brighton, Minnesota. Live Together, Grow Together provides parents with the skills and resources they need to effectively care for their children. All program activities are offered onsite in the community room at Polynesian Village and are jointly hosted by Opportunity Neighborhood and the Mounds View Public School's Early Childhood and Family Education Department.
Early Childhood and Family Education Class (ECFE)
ECFE classes are offered year-round to resident parents and their children every Wednesday from 10 am-12 pm in Polynesian Village's community room. ECFE classes include a light meal, circle time (group singing and reading), a parent-child activity, a child playgroup, and a parent education group.
Early Childhood Development Screening
The Mounds View ECFE program and Opportunity Neighborhood staff coordinate 5 onsite early childhood development screening sessions per year for children ages 3-5.
Evening Play Groups and Family Nights
A one-hour evening playgroup is hosted every other week from May - August. Parents and their children are invited to the Polynesian Village's community room for a light snack and the opportunity to connect and obtain parenting support from other parents with young children while their children play.
Resource Fair
One large Resource Fair is coordinated in the fall and opened to the entire community. The Resource Fair connects families with young children to local community health resources.
Field Trips
Each year the ECFE class goes on two educational field trips: St. Paul's Como Zoo and the Minnesota Children's Museum.
