Out of School Time/Youth Intervention

AMES AFTER HOURS

Ames After Hours is an onsite, year-round, out-of-school time youth development program for youth (K-5th grade) living at Ames Lake Neighborhood, an affordable housing complex on St. Paul's Eastside.

Ames After Hours provides structured learning opportunities for youth to obtain personal, social, academic and citizenship competencies necessary to become thriving individuals and constructive community members.

After-school activities are based on Opportunity Neighborhood's 5 S's of Healthy Youth Development: Study, Service, Skill, Social and Scouts.  The program is available during the school year, four days a week, between 3-5:30 p.m. in the Ames Lake Community Center.

During the summer, a summer day camp is available from 12:30-5:00 p.m., 4 days a week for 9 weeks.

Both the after-school program and summer day camp are free to all resident families.

AMES TEEN GROUP

The Ames Teen Group meets at the same time as Ames After Hours and also provides activities based on Opportunity Neighborhood's 5 S's of Healthy Youth Development. However, activities and topics are centered on mentorship, leadership and youth voice. As an integral part of program planning, teens' ideas and interests guide the program in creating valuable engagement opportunities.

During the summer, teens have the opportunity to apply for paid Youth Program Intern positions, within Ames After Hours' Summer Day Camp.  The positions were created to give teens an opportunity to gain leadership and job skills while having the chance to be involved in summer programming.

There is also a teen planned monthly Ames Teen Group Night in which participating teens gather for a fun activity of their choice from 6-8:00 pm.

COMMON COLLECTIVE

Common Collective is an onsite, year-round, out-of-school time youth development program for youth (K-8th grade) living at Commons at Penn, an affordable housing complex in North Minneapolis.

The program creates an oasis for youth living in part of the Twin Cities known for its high crime rate, widespread poverty and lack of positive opportunities for young people.  The program provides both active and experiential learning opportunities that allow youth to obtain personal, social, academic, and citizenship competencies, necessary to become thriving individuals and constructive community members.

During the school year, the after-school program is provided onsite in the first floor community space Monday-Thursday from 3:30 - 8:00 p.m.and includes healthy snacks and a hot family style meal.

During the summer, a summer day camp is available from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 4 days a week for 9 weeks both in the first floor community space and on field trips throughout the community.
